Today, you will be authenticating your passwords, creating your Google accounts, and taking a tour of both Google Drive and the brand new Google Classroom. Google Classroom is designed to be a one stop shop for everything for our class. Whether it is video clips I want you to view, project instructions you need to have, DBQ documents you need to view, or simply homework assignments and/or study guides for quizzes and tests, Google Classroom will allow you to have your own individual digital copies of everything that we do in class. Google Classroom also gives you the opportunity to complete assignments online, turn them in to me online, and view grades for your assignments online.
To see instructions on the activities we will be doing today, click the following link to access the Google Presentation you will need: Google Classroom Setup Presentation When you have completed all instructions for the presentation, I will have you access both your Fox C6 GMail and Google Drive accounts. Just like you will for Google Classroom and your WiFi, you will sign in to these using your district username and your newly created password. Access Google Drive and GMail using the following links: Google Drive: http://drive.google.com GMail: http://mail.google.com Google Classroom: http://classroom.google.com Take the time to tour Google Drive, GMail, and Google Classroom. We will be using all three of these significantly this year, and if used properly all three of these tools should dramatically improve your organization and time management, and will give you access to all of the resources you will need to succeed in class this year. To begin the year, we have looked at the fundamental differences within the different levels of the political spectrum. In taking your first politcal ideology quiz, you have started to gauge where your beliefs fall on the spectrum between "Conservative" and "Liberal".
The goal of this first homework assignment for the year will be for you to access the website for "The Nolan Chart", which is designed to give you an extremely detailed look into where you fall on the political spectrum. Combined with the work you did in class, this assignment should help you confirm your true political beliefs, while also (hopefully) giving you another school of thought on major political issues. To complete the assignment, you should follow these directions: 1) Visit the website to access the Nolan Chart: http://www.nolanchart.com/survey-php 2) Complete the survey. As you complete the survey, answer the accompanying questions that were given to you in class. If you misplaced your questions, you can find a digital copy of the assignment by clicking on the following link. Nolan Chart Assignment Your assignment will be due on Wednesday, August 27th, and it will be worth 35 points. Here is a sample template for your bill. If you are typing your bill out, you can access this template. When accessing it via Google Drive, you should download a copy of the file to your computer so that you can type on to it. When downloading, follow these instructions:
Bill Template Link 1) On the Google Drive link, click the arrow to download the document. 2) When the document opens, make sure to click on the option to edit the document. 3) Save the Word document to your computer. You should now be able to type onto the bill template if necessary. In class you were given the assignment of contacting your local state representative, Paul Wieland, with a 300-500 word letter regarding an issue currently being considered in Missouri's House of Representatives today that you feel strongly and passionately about. The goal of this assignment is to allow you to have your voice heard by a prominent figure in our state government, while also learning about how to proprely petition government officials.
In order to help you complete your letters, I have included for you a sample template containing instructions on how to most effectively construct your letter to Representative Wieland, and links to a digital copy of the assignment instructions and grading rubrics that I handed out in class on Friday. Remember that this assignment is due by no later than midnight on Monday, May 5th. Assignment Instructions Sheet Sample Letter To Your Representative Template To conclude today's authentication process for our BYOD program, I would like each of you to submit your name and school email address so that I can compile an email spreadsheet for our class. This spreadsheet will be shared with you, so that you may have quick access to everyone's school email addresses. Find your hour below, click on the link and fill out the corresponding Google Form. 3rd Period Google Form 6th Period Google Form 8th Period Google Form For those of you who need (or want) to access resources you will need for your Electoral College DBQ essays electronically, I have provided links below to access your seven DBQ documents, as well as your instructions for your essay. Enhanced White House Version: http://www.whitehouse.gov/sotu Twitter Class Hashtag: #hagsotu State of the Union Printable Bingo Boards: http://www.aauw.org/2014/01/13/sotu-bingo-2014/ Tonight, Governor Jay Nixon is giving his annual "State of the State" address. Very similar to the President's "State of the Union", the Governor will address Missouri's General Assembly (the President addresses the United States Congress) and provides a summary of the job that Missouri's state government did during the past year. The Governor also uses this opportunity to ask the General Assembly to accomplish key goals in his agenda this upcoming year.
To view information on the expected topics of Governor Nixon's speech for tonight, you can access the link to KMOV's prognostications of what Governor Nixon may address tonight. The State of the State Address will commence at 7:00 p.m. tonight (January 21st) KMOV Link: http://www.kmov.com/news/local/Mo-governor-expected-to-propose-more-school-money-241262001.html Hello students and parents, hopefully you have enjoyed this extened Winter Break!
